iOS, Android, Windows Phone 7 Browser Test

Having seen Joe Belfiore demo the new Windows Phone 7 browser on Mango, I decided to test out the hardware that I currently have for browser load times and usability. I have the Google Nexus S (2.3.4), an iPod Touch 4G (4.3.3) and HTC Surround 7 (NoDo). Everything runs in its most current firmware version, clean cache on each device.

This is by no means a scientific test but just a casual look into each browser of the top 3 mobile operating systems. This should have been posted along with the upcoming HTC Surround 7 review but I couldn’t wait to share what the results were to you guys. So here it goes.

Nokia N9: Pure touch phone powered by Meego

Nokia just introduced the Nokia N9 at their Nokia Connection event in Singapore today. The Nokia N9 has virtually zero buttons. You unlock the phone by just double-tapping the screen. The display will be a vivid 3.9” AMOLED curved glass display encased in a unibody housing. The N9 will also have an 8 megapixel with autofocus with Carl Zeiss optics. It will also sport an NFC chip inside for wireless sharing of photos, videos or contacts. It will  have 1Ghz Snapdragon processor and 1GB of RAM inside. 64GB of storage space. Wow.

There is also the new Swipe gesture that is implemented to the button-less hardware and from the looks of it, it looks very very nice. There is a single home pane with 3 simple views. Events (events by you or your friends), Applications (you installed apps) and Open Applications (stuff that is running right now)

This is looking great so far as we await for Nokia’s Windows Phone 7 devices launching before the end of 2011 (also confirmed today). I can’t also help but notice that the UI and even some of the wallpapers were kind of Zune and Metro inspired., don’t you think?

Watch the video teaser after the break.

Toshiba Satellite L675-S7108 17.3-Inch LED Review

L675-S7108

Despite being in continual operation for over a decade, Toshiba's Satellite model manufacturing record has maintained a steady chain of ups and downs. The inaugural machine of Toshiba's Laptops division, the Satellite has come under fire in recent years for being a lumbering workhorse instead of a steadfast steed. But the 2011 model has honestly succeeded in compromising the qualities depicted in the aforementioned equestrian metaphors. It's indeed bulkier than its competitors and a little slower around the track, but other than a few user-incited incidents that could cause damage, the Seattle Slew of cheap laptops is of all things a durable machine.

nintendo-wiiu

Nintendo announced the new Nintendo Wii U on E3. The next-gen console is slated for release next year with its new (giant)  controller which  incorporates a 6.2-inch, 16:9 touch screen and traditional button controls, including two analog Circle Pads. It includes a built-in accelerometer and gyroscope, rumble feature, camera, a microphone, stereo speakers, a sensor strip and a stylus.

IBM Power-based multi-core microprocessor will run under the hood, and according to IBM, the same processor has been powering Watson on those Jeopardy man versus machine episodes.

The new console is backward compatible with Wii games and Wii accessories.

Sharing a funny graphic below. (click to enlarge) I see what you did there, Nintendo.

First look at Microsoft’s new Windows 8

Microsoft just unveiled the new Windows UI for ARM-based tablets and smartbooks. It looks like the Zune’s QuickPlay start screen and provides more information with the use of Live Tiles rather than static icons.Amazing how the UI is smooth even though it actually runs a full-blown Windows beneath it. Can’t wait for more Windows 8 preview videos!
