The first time I have used a Vibram sole was when I got my second pair of Merrell sandals, the WaterPro Animas. And because there are no heels to torture the foot heel and the ankle, it enhances natural posture and the alignment of the spine. And, most especially, it is much easier to relax and stretch after a workout if someone is barefoot.

Countless health benefits have been associated with being barefoot. That is why athletes, to attain better health and movement, prefer to do their sports without any footwear on. It is because when barefoot, movements become the movements of a child—playful and sensitive, yet purposeful and confident. A person experiences the unbound joy of stepping, hopping, and running across any surface on earth, simply to get from here to there. This is the reason why a lot of sports enthusiasts prefer to deal with their activities barefoot.

Numerous runners have been hitting the tracks without any shoes on because the benefits of running barefoot have long been supported by scientific research, coaches, and athletes who’ve offered ample evidence that training without shoes allows you to run faster and further with fewer injuries. Motion studies demonstrate that when running barefoot, one naturally lands on the forefoot, directly below the center of gravity. This results in optimum balance, increased stability, less impact, and greater propulsion.

Indeed, undertaking activities barefoot has a lot of benefits and advantages for the body. However, the feet—most especially those of the more active people—need to be protected from the many possibilities of injury. That is why some footwear are developed to mimic the feel and freedom of being barefoot. Patterns of lights are not the only symptoms of the red ring of death. There are many other factors that may help you in determining the actual error and then to go for the Xbox 360 repair There are many indications and problems that occur when there is an error of red ring death with the Xbox 360 gaming console. The indications may include the freezing or crashing of the Xbox 360 after you have used it for a long time, receiving the errors like: "disc unreadable" or any error of this type, awkward sounds from the inside of your Xbox 360 and the malfunctioning of your Xbox 360 so much so that you get unable to play games on it.

Many people actually get confused while decoding the errors from the light patterns. They mistake the error reading like for example when the four red lights blink on the Xbox 360. They think that it is the indication red ring of death. This is wrong, red ring of death actually has only three red lights, the four lights basically indicate the AV cable loosing from its socket. This error can be solved by simply detaching and then attaching the AV cable to the system.

However, the red ring of death is not something that can be solved so easily. You will have to do a little hard work and will have to keep lots of patience for solving this problem. You may send your Xbox 360 to the Microsoft, but if you do not have the warranty on, then you may do the Xbox 360 repair on your own without spending lot of money. You will be able to get your Xbox back in 2 hours and then you will have a new skill too.

Will it be Microsoft Arc Touch versus Apple Magic Mouse? I don’t think so

Will the yet to be released Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse be the direct PC version of the Apple Magic Mouse? I think not.

From the gallery of (stolen?) shots from Russian site WinFuture the mouse will come in a mix of metal, rubbery and plastic black and will a 2.4 Ghz usb radio receiver to connect to your PC. There is no signifying that the broad surface will be a multi-touch surface like the Apple Magic Mouse. From the looks of it, it’s just an ordinary mouse that is ergonomically different.

The Arc mouse’s main feature is that it can be shaped to ergonomically fit the users hand. The customizable back spine is still a mystery and how well it performs is still unknown. Unlike the Apple Magic Mouse which I personally have tried and can attest that it is too flat to be used comfortably through out the day, this Arc Mouse looks easy.

I hope that I’m wrong and this Mouse does multi-touch because Windows could use a fresh interactive experience much like what the Magic Mouse did to my OSX experience. With the use of BetterTouch Tool for the Magic Mouse (like Setpoint software) I was able to set numerous actions and “tap” points for the Magic Mouse. Tapping right could open the Dashboard, Tapping right could activate Expose. Imagine what it could be like on the PC.

Microsoft is well known for good quality hardware so aside from the similar price of $69.99 to the Magic Mouse I think I can’t say that the hardware will be the same. But I hope I’m proven wrong. ( It’s nice to set a low expectation when it comes to Microsoft sometimes :) Let it compete with the Magic mouse AND Trackpad. That would surely make me get one!

Wired iPad Aluminum Keyboard Spotted

This looks like Apple’s own Wireless aluminum keyboard except for the wire connector for the iPad’s dock port. I'm not sure if this also requires 2x AA batteries or if it can be powered by the port itself (if that is even possible). The keyboard also has notification lights for the Function Command, Caps Lock, and Power. Video after the jump.

iMac 21.5 and Windows 7

Honestly, only after installing Windows 7 on my “company” iMac did I really feel in control of this machine again. I still find myself needing the flexibility, programs, and familiarity that only a Windows OS can offer right now.

I’m now also amongst the people clamoring for a Zune Software on a Mac. I never thought that would happen. huh.

Installing a new LCD and faceplate on an iPod Nano

I was cleaning up my desk when I saw this old second-hand, first-generation iPod Nano that was all scratched up and the LCD had dead lines on it. I used this iPod Nano primarily for audio books before but haven’t really use it for anything since the Zune HD arrived. It’s 2GB space is still useful for a couple of audio podcasts, some songs and audio books so I decided to repair it myself. Read more after the jump.

As you can see on the photo above, the screen is pretty badly damaged but still usable. I searched a Philippine classified site for new parts but the seller I talked to was somewhat slow (or lazy?) in replying. So I decided to check out eBay and found a seller that has an LCD part ($7.49) as well as a black (or white) faceplate ($3.99). Getting a new faceplate would make sense in my case. I don’t want to end up having to look at a new LCD screen on a heavily scratched casing.

Both orders include free prying tools to open up the iPod Nano. I ordered and waited for a month before getting the items at our local courier.

Before starting the whole process. I watched some Youtube videos on repairing a 1st-gen iPod Nano. There are also photo steps that helped me save time in figuring out how and what to do.

From experience, the only hard part is removing the aluminum back plate. The plastic prying tools does the job well. I suggest starting at the bottom panel where the usb and 3.5mm port is located. Pry that area first then go along the edges up to the sides (as seen on iFixit.com) By the way, don’t forget to ground yourself first to avoid static charges shorting the transistors.

After Installing the screen, I closed the iPod Nano and tried starting it, the display would light up and then fade out. I feared that I did something wrong so I opened the device again and double-checked the connections. I also didn’t close everything up and did all the testing while it was open.

The solution that I found out that because I installed a new LCD screen, the iPod Nano did not recognize this new hardware and that I would need to RESET it first. I searched and found the answer on how to do that:

Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.

iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
- The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"

If you are having the “white screen of death” after replacing your LCD, do the above key combinations to reset your iPod and after rebooting it will work fine.

Ta-da! Everything looks brand new except the clickwheel and the back plate (which looks awkward). I don’t mind changing the old ones because if it ain’t broke, I don’t want to fix it.

This DIY project only cost around 520 pesos. I think the price and result was worth it.

HTC Desire HD video

Probably the first video of the HTC Desire HD from 247android.com. As you can see the screen is larger than the original Desire and has that HD2 feel. This is looking as a worthy successor to the Desire.

On another note, the first Windows 7 phone by HTC, named HTC Schubert, is also demoed by the same guys over at 247windowsphone.com. Video below

HTC Desire HD is coming?

Rumors are circulating that HTC will be releasing two versions of HTC Desire in the coming months. One codenamed “Vision” will called HTC Desire Z. It will be like the Desire but with a full-sliding QWERTY keyboard.

The second variant codenamed “Ace” will be called the Desire HD which has rumored specs of 4.3” WVGA display, Android 2.2, 1Ghz Snapdragon, 8-megapixel camera with 720p video recording and 4GB built in memory all encased in a aluminum unibody design. Those wishing for the hardware beauty of the Legend can now have a premium device in the Desire HD if this is true.

10-Port USB Hub: Overkill? Not for me

I have lots of USB devices that needs charging, syncing, printing, uploading, downloading etc.. This is why I decided to trade in my old 4-port usb hub to this huge 10-port hub from cd-r king. Now I can just slap every usb thingamajigs to the hub without ejecting a plugged-in usb thumbdrive or pulling out some sync cables first.

Unfortunately another disadvantage of the iMac are the location of the ports. It is located at the back of the system. So its either I stand up or grope at the back of the monitor just to find an available port among the 4 usb ports. So you see, this thing is perfect for me.

I have been eyeing this 10-port usb hub since I saw it on online. It’s retail price was more than my budget. Luckily the people at cd-r king started importing this exact 10-port hub and is selling them for only 380 pesos. The only difference was that the original package included a power adapter, cdrking’s version sadly did not. I badly needed that to power a couple of 2.5” external drives off the hub itself.

The hub has screw slots at the back if you’d want to hang these over or under a desk. It also has individual indicator lights to indicate an active port. Overall, I’d say this is a good price for a good quality 10-port hub. Want overkill? Check out this 49-port hub!

To Apple, just admit the iPhone 4’s faulty antenna design

Instead of ducking away and including other smart phone vendors allegedly similar problems in their keynote, Apple should just admit fault on their “revolutionary” antenna design for the iPhone 4.

Every smartphone has a cellular antenna. And nearly every smartphone can lose signal strength if you hold it in a certain way. To demonstrate this, we tested iPhone 4 alongside other smartphones.

Apple have dilly dallied with their response regarding public and press complaints on the antenna issue until they decided (pressured?) to just give away free “bumpers” just to provide a temporary band-aid remedy. First they said it can be fixed by a software update, now they are saying it can’t.

I found inconsistencies from the keynote, one of which Jobs says that Apple already knew that holding the phone on the black strip would cause signal degradation and thinking that people won’t mind. And then later on stress that they didn’t know the issue that’s why they didn’t respond outright and decided to collect data first.

They say they love us, their customers. I say, if you love us. Make iDevices OPEN. One step is to allow Flash to be turned on or off by the user and not by you.

I have never experienced any signal problems on any mobile phones I have owned. Mostly Nokia and HTC. What about your experiences on your own phones prior to knowing and hearing about this issue?

Canon releases firmware update for EOS Rebel T2i / 550D

Canon has release a new firmware for users of 550D (aka T2i). The new version addresses the issue on manual exposure shifting when shooting videos.

Fixes a phenomenon in which the set aperture moves unexpectedly when shooting movies in manual exposure mode using some Canon lenses (such as macro lenses).

The Version 1.0.8 firmware is for cameras with firmware up to Version 1.0.7. If the camera's firmware is already Version 1.0.8, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

Techie.com.ph got to tour the recently opened Innotech Lab in Quezon City. Among the gadgets and products featured were Red Fox Technologies’ Android Phone, WizPhone and ebook reader WizLib.

Red Fox WizPhone (Android)

This Android-powered smartphone packs a 3-megapixel camera, a micro-USB port, resistive touchscreen (we’d appreciate a capacitive one, thanks) No suggested retail price as of yet.

Red Fox WizLib

A Kindle-like device that allows users to store and read ebooks, documents and text files. It has WiFi and 3G support for internet connectivity within a wireless hotspot or through any mobile 3G SIM.

The WizLib comes in 3 sizes:
5” display, 600 x 800 resolution, 150g (third from the left)

Kinect and the Zune Software Video Demo

The Kinect camera motion sensors seems very accurate in detecting single and dual gestures. The interface with the rollover effect is really cool. The voice recognition is also a great addition for living / entertainment room use. The Zune Hub was redesigned for this Xbox dashboard, and despite the long loading time, it still seems easy to use. Good job on the Xbox + Kinect experience Microsoft!
