Found this anonymous image that breakdown's Apple’s pricing on the iMac Pro. The poster compares Apple’s prices on each hardware components to the market standard suggested retail price. Their RAM prices and Hard drives are through the roof! No wonder they can sell their mobile tablets and phones at competitive prices.

Smart Philippines and Microsoft partner for Windows Phone 7 launch

Yugatech reports that Smart Communications, Inc and Microsoft Philippines have come into an exclusive agreement to introduce the new Windows Phone 7 in the Philippines. This is an answer to Globe Telecoms exclusive deal with Apple’s iPhone.

“We are very happy to join forces with Smart as we bring an enhanced digital experience to the Filipino public through Windows Phone 7.” With this partnership, we hope to maximize the potential of the smartphone market and let the Filipinos take full advantage of the benefits of the mobile lifestyle,”  - Microsoft Philippines managing director John Bessey

This is great news for those who want a new mobile experience, specially those already familiar with the Zune HD. It is unsure whether this partnership would mean that Microsoft point will be easily available locally and whether the Zune Pass and Zune Marketplace will remove the country restrictions. Let’s just hope that all handsets introduced by Steve Ballmer last week would be available especially the Dell Venue Pro.

So there we have it. Smart is a PC, Globe is a Mac, that makes Sun a Linux . I wish Sun will carry HP/Palms slew of webOS devices coming next year.

Palm Pre 2 and the new webOS 2.0

HP introduces the new Palm Pre 2 and webOS 2.0 today. The new Palm Pre 2 looks like its predecessor with a few cosmetic enhancements and hardware upgrades. The new Pre 2 hardware now has a flat glass screen, 1ghz process and a 5-megapixel camera. On the software end, the webOS 2.0 adds the Just Type functionality (global search) and improved cards management using the all-new Stacks feature.

This is a Verizon Wireless CDMA unit meaning this won’t work on any GSM network. But HP/Palm would be releasing a GSM unlocked version to developers so stay tuned! Hoping that the Pre 2 will arrive in the Philippines. Video after the jump

Dell Venue Pro makes me want a Windows Phone 7

I have been waiting for a good portrait slider to come and it seems that this Dell Venue Pro has got it (besides the Palm Pre). This one has a large 4.1 AMOLED display that is built using the scratch resistant and super tough Gorilla Glass. If you feel touch typing, you can use the on-screen keyboard. If you want that tactile feel, just slide the keyboard out. Perfect.

iPod Shuffle 4th Gen: the buttons make a comeback

Apple backtracks and release the newest iPod Shuffle sans the chicklet, button-less 3rd generation Shuffle. VoiceOver is still present with a push of a button located beside the power switch. VoiceOver feature was accurate with all of the song titles and is capable of reading 25 different languages. Tested and works as advertised. Now only comes in 2GB of space. This iPod Shuffle 2GB retails around 2,800 pesos and comes in 5 different colors. This one is the standard aluminum version.

Seagate FreeAgent 1TB GoFlex Desk External Drive Review

I already have close to 50GB worth of design work/project files on my system and I have never done any redundancy backup whatsoever for the past 6 years. Logic and statistics dictates that I should so I decided to look around for a good external drive since the iMac doesn’t have any extra drive bays.

I initially wanted to go for Western Digital drives just for the look of their enclosures but decided against it having a couple of WD die on us over the years. Seagate on the other hand has never failed me with respect to bad sectors, corrupted boot managers or destroying years of hard work so I checked out what they had and saw this 1 terabyte GoFlex External Drive.
