Zii Egg is better than everyone else

I have to admire this piece of gadgetry. It almost surpasses every existing multi-touch player in market right now. Zii Egg is Creative’s touch screen player powered by Android and their proprietary Plaszma OS. The features are a merge of the new iPod touch’s and Zune HD, take a look at the specs:

  • Capacitive multi-touch touch 3.5” display
  • Up to 32GB internal plus SDHC slot (supports up to 32GB of external SDHC Card)
  • Supports: MP3, WMA, AAC, WMV, H.264, MPEG-4, AVI, and MOV (unconfirmed)
  • Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
  • 3-axis Accelerometer
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g
  • Hardware GPS receiver
  • 32GB Internal Memory
  • 256MB Mobile DDR RAM
  • Supports 720p and 1080p HDTVs via HD cable
  • Headphone socket, built-in speaker and microphone
  • Dual cameras (Forward facing HD camera and Rear facing VGA camera)

The Zii Egg is designed for OEM manufacturers and not for consumers right now. What that means is that Creative is targeting OEM manufacturers who are interested in making and branding their own players. A separate consumer product named “Zii” is still unannounced. Zii Egg is rumored to have a starting price of $199. That is cheap!

Everything but the kitchen sink! …. and of course apps. Feature win is the SD Card slot that can read up to 32GB SDHC cards! Take that Apple and Microsoft!

CNet: Zune is the best podcast player

Majority content on my Zune are video and audio podcasts. Subscribing and updating is really simple. I can’t fill up my iPod touch with podcast due to the limited space, all I have are apps :)

“A fantastic podcast option, the Zune even ekes past the iPod for the top spot. The software is excellent for podcasts: You can manage how many episodes you want to sync to your device on a subscription-by-subscription level, meaning you can update three episodes of Buzz Out Loud, but only one of MP3 Insider and so on. You can also unsubscribe from podcasts directly from the player, and there's an option to wirelessly sync new podcasts when you charge your player at night. The Zune also offers accelerated fast forwarding and passive bookmarking to automatically remember your spot in each podcast.”

Microsoft Store opening up next to Apple stores

Just like Jollibee opening up next to McDonald’s Stores (or..is it vice-versa?) Microsoft is going the same route by setting up Microsoft shops directly next to Apple stores. Kevin Turner, a Microsoft executive also says Microsoft is "in the game for the long-term" and has hired a retail team.

We will wait for you Ned Flanders to open up a Microsoft shop in the Philippines.

Yet another Zune HD interface shot

Xbox 360 Program Manager "Fitret" has posted on Twitpic a shot of the Zune Album interface. He twittered this message: “For those asking about #zuneHD: It's awesome! Great UI, great feel. Don't know about battery life yet, mine hasn't run out.

Will the next-gen iPod Touch outshine Zune HD?

TechCrunch reports said that the new iPod Touch (3rd Generation) would have a camera, video capture and edit features and would be very fast. (like 3GS fast). The validity of this report is not yet set in stone as these are only based on sources saying that Apple has placed massive orders of camera modules similar to the new iPhones.

Would the camera feature outshine the Zune HD? (both are expected to be introduced this September)

I like the new Internet Explorer 8 short ads

These ads were done by advertising agency Bradley and Montgomery for Microsoft IE8. The videos can be seen on IE8’s promo site BrowserForTheBetter.com.

I liked the offbeat humor that was used and the weird unusual approach in advertising a browser, a free browser that is. My favorite is S.H.Y.N.E.S.S,  watch out for the walking props man. really funny.

This last advertisement was pulled out by Microsoft  from their site after receiving a lot of complaints. Watch the video here, preferably while not eating or before eating something.

"We created the OMGIGP video as a tongue-in-cheek look at the InPrivate Browsing feature of Internet Explorer 8, using the same irreverent humor that our customers told us they liked about other components of the Internet Explorer 8 marketing campaign. While much of the feedback to this particular piece of creative was positive, some of our customers found it offensive, so we have removed it."

Even so, I still enjoyed the “puking” video. Weird and gross, but bizarrely funny.
